A quick introduction into the settings of the VTD 1188
The Bremen Medical Devices VTD 1188 is a Vacuum Therapy Device designed to meet 4 clinical needs:
1. Erectile Dysfunction
2. Peyronie's Disease (Curved Penis)
3. Pelvic Rehabilitation after Prostatectomy Surgery
4. Penis Stretching before Penile Prosthesis insertion for elongation
This post will explain the various treatment protocols on the device. For further detail on operating the device, please refer to the Instructional Manual on our website or watch the Quick Start Guide.
Indication | Starting Pressure (kPa) | Interval | Frequency |
Erectile Dysfunction | -30 | 10 - 30 sec Repetitions Total Time - 10 - 20min | 1 - 2 times a day |
Peyronie’s Disease | -30 | 1 - 2 min on vacuum Release for 1 min and Repeat 5 times | 1 - 2 times a day |
Post-Prostatectomy Rehabilitation | -30 | 10 - 30 sec Repetitions Total Time - 10 - 20min | 1 - 2 times a day |
Penis Enlargement/ Prosthesis Placement | -30 | As per Surgeon Instructions | As per Surgeon Instructions |
Starting Pressure
The Pressure Setting determines the amount of negative pressure created by the vacuum. By default, all treatment protocols start at - 30 kPA - that is approximately 225 mmHg. Most clinical studies have recommended this level as a starting point regardless of clinical indication. The pressure for all the indication can be gradually increased (while in Mode 2 - Pressure Limited Mode).
Do note that you should only increase pressure settings under the following situations:
1. You are not experiencing pain at that pressure setting
2 - Pressure limited mode, in some cases, you may need to go to Mode 1 - Manual Mode to go to an exact pressure setting.
Although the default is also to start at Mode 2 - Pressure limited mode, in some cases, you may need to go to Mode 2 - Manual Mode to go to an exact pressure setting. Do note that if you leave the device on at Mode 1, it will automatically increase to -55 kPA. If you wish to only have a lower pressure, pause the manual mode by pressing the MINUS ( - ) button once, the device will stop at the pressure it is at that time.
Intervals
The traction caused by the vacuum is designed to first encourage blood flow into the sinusoids of the penis, to further strengthen the muscles of the penis, the patient needs to draw the penis inwards - much like hold a bowel movement (clenching the rectal muscles).
The interval duration of holding depends on the indication for the device. To enable better dynamic responses of the muscles, it is recommended to do shorter intervals more frequently for Erectile Dysfunction and Post-Prostatectomy Penile Rehabilitation. For curvature correction in the case of Peyronie's disease, a longer interval is advised.
Frequency
The basic recommendation for all indication is to use the device 1 - 2 times a day. Done correctly, most users report improvements after 3 - 4 months. Continuing the therapy on a regular basis helps maintain the progress that you have established.
Ring Size
The silicone ring comes in 3 sizes. The default size provided is Medium - 2 cm (diameter of the opening). There is a Small - 1.4cm and a Large - 2.5cm. Although the default size fits for most patients, you may consider opting for a different size ring, if you are experiencing air leakage during the therapy.
